About Josh
You can see a client's business clearly in ten minutes. Your own is harder.
I’ve rewritten my own positioning more times than I’d recommend to anyone.
Not for lack of frameworks — I know them well enough to teach them. I can listen to another consultant for ten minutes and see the offer, the story, the decision they’re avoiding. Then I look at my own business and find six equally defensible directions.
That distance is part of what people hire me for.
Good work isn’t the same as a clear offer.
I spent 90 days trying to sell my first project. I had experience in marketing, messaging, strategy — all of it, which felt like an advantage.
It wasn’t especially helpful to the buyer. People liked me. They just couldn’t tell what I wanted them to buy.
The offer got easier to sell the moment I stopped explaining everything I knew and gave the work a shape. The work stayed custom. The buyer no longer needed my whole résumé to understand what it was for.
Then I saw it inside delivery, too.
An offer can be clear while the work still runs on one person’s memory. The standards live in somebody’s head, explained once, then lost in a recording nobody replays. That’s why so many AI experiments produce work an expert would never send — the machine got the request, not the judgment.
So the work expanded: package the expertise, then help the business reuse it.
I still run one.
I’m COO of OneTeam Aviation. Strategy, delivery, capacity, the unglamorous stuff that decides if a good idea survives the week.
That keeps the teaching honest. A process that collapses during a client rush isn’t a process. An offer sales can’t explain doesn’t get clearer because the deck says so. It has to hold up after the meeting.
How I actually help
I listen for the decision under the explanation. “I need a better name” is often “I don’t know where the offer ends.” I’m not selling a framework — I’m giving you a distinction, then staying close enough to see if it works.
What I believe
You don't need to explain everything you know to be trusted A clear offer protects custom work — it doesn't flatten it Every project should leave something the business can reuse A small firm can get more capable without getting bigger
